Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about planning a group trip with Plane Plans.
Getting Started
What is Plane Plans?
Plane Plans is a free group trip planner that helps friends and families decide when and where to travel together. Start with a flexible travel window or specific trip options, and bring everyone's input together in one place.
Is Plane Plans really free?
Yes! Plane Plans is completely free to use. You can create a trip, invite travelers, compare possible dates and destinations, and vote together without paying anything.
How does Plane Plans work?
Create a trip with a flexible travel window or specific dates and destinations you're considering. Invite your group to mark when they can't travel or vote on the options you've proposed. Plane Plans brings everyone's input together so the organizer can choose the final plan.
What if we already have specific trip dates in mind?
Choose Specific date options when creating your trip. Add the dates and destinations you're considering, then invite your group to select every option they could attend. There's no separate availability calendar for this type of trip.
Do I need an account?
You can start planning your trip without an account. When you're ready to save it, simply sign in with Google or your email. No password is needed, and Plane Plans is completely free.
What kinds of trips can I plan?
Plane Plans works for friend getaways, family vacations, birthday trips, bachelor and bachelorette parties, and other trips where several people need to agree on dates.
Planning Your Trip
How do I invite people to my trip?
Once you've created a trip, use its invitation link to invite your group. You can share the link by text, email, or in a group chat.
Does everyone need to fly from the same airport?
No. Each traveler can choose their own departure airport, choose to drive, or indicate they are already at the destination. Plane Plans uses departure airports to show estimated flight prices.
How does everyone share their availability?
For flexible-date trips, each traveler marks the days they can't travel on the availability calendar. Plane Plans uses the group's responses to show possible trip dates. For specific-date trips, travelers vote directly on the proposed options instead.
What if there are no dates that work for everyone?
You can still review the available options and see which dates work best for the group. The organizer can use everyone's input to decide whether to adjust the travel window or choose a compromise.
How does voting work?
For flexible-date trips, the organizer can invite everyone to vote on possible dates and destinations. For specific-date trips, travelers select all proposed trip options they could attend. The organizer reviews the responses before making the final decision.
What if none of the proposed trip options work for me?
For specific-date trips, you can complete your response without selecting any options. Your response still counts as complete, so the organizer knows you've responded.
Who decides the final trip dates?
The trip organizer makes the final decision after reviewing everyone's input. Depending on the trip, that may include availability, voting, or both. Plane Plans does not book flights or hotels.
Can I change my trip details or deadlines?
The organizer can adjust trip details and planning deadlines as plans change. Deadlines help everyone know when to submit availability and votes.
Does Plane Plans book flights or hotels?
No. Plane Plans helps your group agree on a destination and travel dates before booking. You can use that plan to book flights, accommodations, and activities separately.
Joining a Trip
How do I join a trip someone invited me to?
Open the invitation link your organizer shared and sign in with Google or your email. If you're new to Plane Plans, you'll complete a short profile before joining the trip. Then you can participate in the planning steps available for that trip.
Can I change my availability or votes?
During an open planning step, you can return to your trip to review your responses and make changes. Check the deadlines shown on the trip page so you know when each step closes.
What if I miss a deadline?
Contact the trip organizer. They can review the trip's deadlines and decide whether to extend the planning period. If the group has already moved on, your options may be limited.
